Hi...

The new A140 we have just bought smells quite strong of petrol? We have got about 265miles out of a tank....!!! Seems a bit light! Any Ideas what this might be and know of an Independant Merc technician in the Reading area (berkshire) that could help.....

Thanks in advance.

Get a LOT more miles than that out of mine (5,500cc monster). Personally I think you have a problem (or probably a leak)

Can't help with an Indie by you unfortunately, though I'm sure others will be able to.

All cars are given a tank size in relation to engine size to give out 400 miles on a combined average.

So you do have a problem, check around the fuel filter area & the fuel lines underneath in case they have been crushed with a trolley jack!

depends on so many things, could be right, could be wrong. I can get 700 miles from a tank or as is currently I am getting around 400. The important thing is that the car shouldn't smell of petrol. That is a bad thing!

~700 on my tank ;-)
I guess you would require in flight refueling for that

Remove the under car panels and inspect the fuel filter area.

Also in the engine bay at the back of the engine you will find a fuel rail and the pipe connecting has been known to leak. MB do a modified part for it.
