Ever since my ML (2000) suffered a flat battery and replacement, some of the instruments on the cluster twitch slightly whilst the fuel pump is running before the ignition key is fully turned. Affects the Tachometer and Temprature Gauge

Instruments all work fine, but occasionally there's a 5 second delay before they all activate after starting engine

Mercedes tell that I need a new intrument cluster costing in excess of £280, but feel frustrated there's not simpler fix as there absolutely nothing wrong with them apart from the annoying twitching on the needles. Also I was told that if I was to swap the instrument cluster out myself with one from salvage that this would not work as it would need to be programmed to the car - is this true?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Ian.

I do not accept that it wants a new cluster, as all of the instruments are individual.

Yes another unit would have to be programed by removing the data from yours and transferring to the new one.
