Hello,

Firstly i only do around 6k miles a year, Ive noticed the ML350's (3.7) quite good value and low miles compared to the ML270 ?

My current car does around 20mpg most of the time although very steady I can get 30mpg.

What do people get out of a 350?

could I exspect 20 in town and 25 at 70 on the m-way or is that miles away?...:)

Thanks in advance

I drive reasonably steadily. I'm not a snailer tho!! and my 270 gives 30mpg on my commute quite regularly. On my drive to Portugal last year got as high as 32!!

What would you expect from a ML 430 I run to the South France each year and previously had a Shogun 3.2 DiD

Hi Chris,

I'm now considering the ML350 petrol as I've looked at what millage I do (around 6k) together with the fact the cars are cheaper to buy and fuel is cheaper means over 6k it would cost around £300 more for the petrol one..

Ok so come resale the Cdi would be easier to shift but at the right price it will sell.

I'm thinking 20 overall for a ML350, would guess the 430 similar?

Cheers

I think you're pretty much on the right track. Diesel is great when you're doing enough distance to justify it, but even then the financial savings are never as good as you expect as they are only ever a small part of the real running costs. Diesel may also make sense if you are towing or off roading as the torque is better but for a 6k road commute, the 350/430 or even 500 makes as much sense. Of course there is always the 'green' question of why need a 4x4 at all if you're not using any of the aspects (the E350 is quicker and more economical) but that's between you and your conscience!! (says a Jeep owner).
