hi all we are thinking of buying a ml 55 i know the fuel economy is bad what should we be looking out for when looking at one? are there any common faults i should be aware of?
Great cars if you get a good one, I love mine. Damp on the passenger side footwell is not a good sign as this could mean blocked sunroof drains and further problems down the line. Check the bodywork good and thoruogh as the AMG body kits will hide rust around the arches etc. the tail gates are also prone to rust so check the body hasn't been tidied up on the cheap for sale. Smooth engine running and smooth shift changes are a must!!! Check all electrical accessories work and don't be fobbed off by nonsense excuses for accessories not working as the AAM modules can fail and cause many different issues. One of which central locking not working via the key fob. Check for broken springs, leaking dampers as these are also pricey to replace.
Good service history is a must!!!!!
Good luck in finding a nice one as they seem to be getting few and far between
Oh and just for the record don't expect more than 17-20 mpg around town. They are very juicy. But well worth it!!!!!!!!
