I cannot for the life of me work out the variations price wise on ebay for ML parts. I entered a search on ebay knowing roughly how much a thermosat assembly cost and found sellers offering the part from £37.80 (gsfcarparts) to (wait for it) £500.77 (redlinecarparts) WTF?

A few.
Established ebay sellers who have run out of a particular item will amend their listing, raising the price to an unbuyable level rather than cancel the listing to avoid losing their place in the search order & in the hope the curious / bemused will look at their other items & perhaps buy something.

Inevitably someone who doesn't know how ebay works will wonder how they ever plan on selling the item at that ridiculous price. The answer is they don't.

I bought one earlier in the year for my ML 270 from Mercedes - from memory it was 80.00 euro - that is thermostat and housing complete.
