Probably the window regulater has broken its spot welds as mine did.
My ML window failed to raise even though i could hear the motor working....i stripped the door card off and removed the 'scissor' type regulater, three spot welds at the 'hinge' point of the scissor had sheared ......I had it re-welded locally, cost me 5 euros instead of £80 for a new one.

Basically, if you hear the window lifter motor running but the window is not moving (or trying to move) then the above applies.

Easy job.

sorry for no reply went down the pub with him after a quick look. the window will only go about half way up, when sending in down it move straight away but you can hear the motor working for a short time after, then when you send it back up you can hear the motor work for a short while before the glass moves the it comes up half way. It's possible to pull the glass up by hand so it must be the reg' as you said. Will strip it down on the weekend.

Thanks.
