Can some one guide me as to where my oil leak is please, on 2001 ml270.

At the moment the oil is hardly hitting the drive so must be slow leak, I have taken the engine cover off and the leak is where the blue line is, see piccy.

I can't see where it's coming from, but seems high up, maybe just below the 4 black plastic bits going into the engine(injector?) there is a dribble on the alternator, yet a tiny pool to the rear of the engine on a ledge.

Also the car has been driven for a couple of months overfilled with oil, now drained off to correct level. Any guidance appreciated, thanks for reading.

Ok what I thought was alternator could be refrigerant cooler motor, so on new piccy is there anything that usually blows in the area marked in blue, it can't be seen from looking at engine with cover off, as view is obstructed

Looks like that you have the blocked and leaking inlet manifold problem - well documented here. There is a thread here for the electronic solution to by-passing/eliminating the EGR valve etc which is probably causing your oily leak. You will need to remove the inlet mainfold (black pipes) to clean and modify. Easiest is if you can pick up a second hand one - clean and modify it and then just swap over whilst doing the electronic modification.

Bill's advice is good. Oil leak actually comes from the swirl flap spindles that run in a seal on the inlet manifold. As the manifold runs under pressure, oil from the PCV is forced out through these seals when they become worn.
As Bill suggested, take the manifold off and remove the spindle, along with the flaps. The holes in the manifold can then be blocked with plugs. You will find that the manifold is full of very hard to remove gunk. You should clean that out.
The EGR shunt is really a different issue but well worth the effort. The thread by dieselman details this.
