Hi All,

New to the site and very impressed with all the knowledge available. I have a Mercedes ML 270 Automatic Station Wagon. The vehicle is on an X plate with just short of 90,000 miles. The car has recently developed a gearbox problem jerking and struggling to find gear mainly second and third (only seems to do this when the engine is cold) I have noticed oil on my drive and I have had the car inspected and there seems to be a slight leak from the gearbox. This sounds like it is going to be expensive, can anybody recommend a good, honest, none main dealer garage in or around Greater Manchester who can fix the problem.

A common leak cause of a leaking auto box is the 'pilot bushing'.... this is the part that the large electrical plug goes into, the bushing costs approx £12 and fitting is only about 20 minutes............once this part is fitted and the gearbox level is topped back up to the correct level i would expect the gearbox to operate correctly.

Better still, have the tranny oil and filter renewed at the same time, it is probably due renewal.

thanks for the recommendations,
regards your box give us a call, we are in warrington and only too happy to give advice over the phone,
as quoted the most common cause of leak is the multiplug seals,
and advice for any gearbox issues always first check your oil level AND condition,
