Hello all.
I just got a cheap 2003 ML279 CDI and its in a limp mode of sorts with the EPC light on.
Threw the code reader on no fault codes at an idle or driving, it will get to 100kmh but very slowly.

Changed out the MAF sensor removed and cleaned the EGR.

The brakes need a change desperately and I'm assuming the diesel and oil filters are also in need of a change.
My question is after brakes and filters where else could I look to find this issue?

I have given vacuum lines a quick check nothing jumping out.

I don't have a vac pump to test the EGR but I figured I'd I get a fault code for that.

At an idle I tried unplugging 1 injector at a time, each 1 stalled the motor my limited logic tells me they should be ok?

My fault code reader is basic but I did get other readouts from it I'll attach.

Any input welcome, I can find my way around a drill rig but these flash cars have me stumped

hi, 17gs for the maf is way to high, should be no more than 5gs, i expect an air leak or possible injectors over fueling, try a leak off test and check all pipes around air filter etc, there must be some smoke with the high readings?

Hi mate thanks heaps for the info. I thought 17 was high also hence the MAF swap which didn't change it.

I'll check all piping tomorrow how would I tell if the injector is overfueling?

There's no real smoke I've noticed but I haven't had anyone rev it while I look either.

I'll google leak off test and see if I can do it

hi mate, its really easy, i used plastic bottles with pipe through the top, i cant remember the exact figure but on my old ml 2 filled up within seconds and the other 3 were quite slow compared, if they fill quickly they are usually faulty,

Awesome I found a kit quite cheap I'll wait for that to arrive.

Just gotta search for cracks or leaks I guess if you or anyone else could give me clues towards the more common leak areas that would be appreciated.
Ill break it all down and have a search tomorrow hopefully this is the issue.

Leaks of air in the main boost pipes are the most common. Big 3 inch hose from turbo to intercooler and from intercooler to inlet manifold. Splits can be hard to see but usually can be found by looking for oily residue on hose.

Thankyou very much, I did notice some oil on a hose I could not explain thought it had run along the hose from some carless oil top up. I'll pull it apart this afternoon.

Hopefully this fixs it and I've got myself a cheap car.

Again thanks to everyone for input and advice

Hi, Generic code readers won't cut the mustard with these, you need to get it on Star or if that's not an option invest in an Icarsoft MBII

Really? They work for all the Mercedes trucks at work? It give me all other readouts. Thanks for the heads up maybe I should get it to a mechanic for a proper code read before I spend too much money.

Really appreciate the heads up mate
