Hello.

First time asking a question on the forum so please bear with me.

I had a leaking injector that was fixed and a new injector fitted, however since then I'm lucky if it will do 20 miles to the gallon. Strangely enough when we tow our caravan fuel consumption only drops slightly, not as much as you would expect. I will take it back to the garage to get them to check it but I thought it would be a good idea to see if you lads have any idea's. I thought it may be a fuel leak where the garage had worked on it so checked all the unions to the injector but nothing.

The car was definitely more fuel efficient with the leaking injector so could it be that the new injector isn't calibrated to the ECU, thought about disconnecting the battery to see if the ECU would recalibrate its self (shot in the dark).

Another thing does anyone know what this is in the picture below as it looks like it should be connected to something else. Has this got something to do with the above problem.

Cheers Ian

Injector coding might need setting in the ecu. thats a fuel bleed plug for the workshop to draw fuel though for testing pressures etc! nothing to worry about,

Welcome to the forums!

Sam it looks like the fuel bleed's been buggered about with. It doesn't usually have a jubilee clip on it and the plug is damaged or replaced with something else. I'd say that may be where the leak is.

Sam, many thanks for you reply.

Chris, I can't see any fuel coming from it with the engine running but you are right it does look damaged on the right hand side which made me think it might be a problem. Another thing when I got the car back it seemed very slightly down on power but runs smoothly.

Ian, - the fuel lines becoming hardened and brittle is a common problem with these engines. The end couplings can leak too giving rise to higher fuel consumption. There's a good write up on replacing them in the DIY section. If you feel up to it, you might give it a go. Parts are about £30 - £40 and should take a couple of hours to complete.

But before that, as Sam get the injector coding carried out by a capable garage, if not already done.

Had this problem last week with a dripping bleed valve. The consumption was poor but since relacement its up again.I found it by seeing what i thought was a small oil leak on the floor but it turned out to be deisel turning black as it run down the engine.

Many thanks for your replies. I'm going to have another look at it on Friday when I've got more time, but anymore suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi you will loose the radio code if you disconnecting the battery might have to pay for the code if you dont have it, 20 mpg thats 30% down so thats 3 pints approx every 1/2 hr at 60 mph if it was a leek then I think you would know I'd be going back to the garage with this one
