Hi Guys,

Having had the 430 for a few weeks, a couple of things have cropped up.

ESP light was on so took it to the dealer's nominated garage. Fixed a broken wire and sorted. They also read all faults. The MAF control unit is faulty and looks like a new one is in order. Garage thinks it is over fuelling (seems to be returning 14mpg rather than 20 i was expecting. Unfortunately covered within the warranty, so the question is... how much for the part and is it an easy diy jobbie?

The other thing, having given it some beans away from a roundabout. Car decided to stick in 2nd gear. Turn off and on again sorted it out. Is there an underlying problem lerking???

Thanks in advance

Not sure on the V8 wether there are 2 MAF's or just 1, but on the Diesel 270 its a very easy swap, just buy the original unit. Basically a 5 minute job, remove 2 screws, remove the connector, extract MAF and replace.

Gearbox - get the oil level checked first, then get codes read. One of the first symptoms I had that the 270 box was going faulty was pulling in to a layby rapidly and it locked in gear.

C 230K - SOLD now running E320T CDI
There is a good chance it is the Air Mass Sensor creating both faults but would recommend a Diagnostic Scan to be sure.

There is a small posibility that the Gearbox also has a fault with internal Speed Sensors - Diagnostic Test will prove this.

Only one Air Mass Sensor and on the ML it is very easy to replace.

Follow the intake pipe from the Air Filter Housing and there it is !! A single electrical connector. Held in the intake pipe by a Jubilee clip one end and spring clips the other end.

You can do no harm.

Good Luck

2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
Only one MAF this seldom shows up as such on STAR often one can just unplug it to see if the full power is back.

When the engine output is down,,the gearbox does not know what to do, and can stay in the get you home locked up, till you re start
