Greetings

I have a mercedes benz A140 model. Each time I start it cuts out like the fuel is behing restricted. When slowing down to stop e.g. at traffic lights it also cuts out.

.......When travelling yesterday it starting failing to pull until we eventual stopped. Initial I thought it my freind because she is still relativley inexperienced in driving.

....On several occasions the car has failed to start as well. The AA was called on those occassion and have suggested something must have been left on. The battery is also new.

I have another freind with the same problem. He has been advised by a merc benz garage that it's the Engine Control Unit but cost of repair is just exorbitant.

I would love to hear from anyone who has experienced the same thing. What resolution did you take?

The fault codes need to be read, where abouts are you based? Itl prob have air mass faults leading to a replacement air mass (which is built into ecu) but there are people who repair them for around £200.

This is incorrect the Air mass is not "built in to the ECU" its completely separate

It simply sends signals to the ECU allowing the ECU to change Outputs accordingly.

It would be a good place to start.
Not sure myself where the MAS is located - both answers above ring true - they are normally on the air intake but some cars like the Nissan Micra have them built into another component - either way - it should be repairable,
