There was a E260 and E280 the reason why there was no CE versions was because they did not make one.

err ... no. there was a 260E, but no E260. my question was specifically about *why* there were no coupe variants with those engine sizes in the W124 chassis. so we're back to square one. or minus one in your case malcolm, for not knowing that there was no E260.

Please Sir, can I have my point back if I try again.
In the first series, that's up to 09 92 there is, was a 260E , 230CE,300CE,300CE 24

In the second series from 10 92 there was a E280 and 280E the only CE's made in this group was the 200CE,320CE,and 300CE 24

The E280 was for Japan.

I think I should get 2 points for this lot.

I guess you'd have to ask the MBUK marketing boys. There are no technical reasons so I imagine they figured that a 4 pot 230ce for economy and the fastest 300ce were sufficient. I suspect that there were other types in Europe, perhaps even a 260!

Wasn't there a 280 / 260 variant of the CE in the US?

you were doing so well until the part about the 200CE ... now we'll have to use the double-or-quits method of awarding or subtracting points (as it's only fair); and this puts you on minus four. i'm no pessimist but it's hard to see how you can recover in time for the exam, master malcolm.

Please Sir, I have not said anything wrong, re the 200CE
There was the.124040 then the 124041 for Italy, the last version being 124060.

that adds up to 9 points
