This is probably a question for Andy, but i would obviously appreciate any feed back.
My problem lies in the fact that i could do with more power from my 1991 E250D, everything was fine with the vehicle until i bought a caravan, now i find that at times it is a bit sluggish when towing, the car runs like a dream, and the economy is great, so there are obviously no basic faults there. Ilike the vehicle so i am loathed to change it for a 300D/TD, the question is,

a) is it possible to convert the 250D to turbo spec, either by fitting the relevent parts from an existing 250TD, i.e. second hand parts.?

b) How fesible is it to convert the 250 to a 300, i realise that it means swapping a 5 cyl for a 6 cyl, but are there any other pitfalls that i'm likely to encounter?

c) does anyone know of a reasonably priced good quality after market turbo kit that can be obtained.?

More power from 250D

Hi Dave,

Before I start Dave. I wish you hadn't said you are a caravaner. I will probably be cursing you one of these days. But I will try not to hold it against you.

Personally I would trade up to a 300, but I am not sure you would find the power increase you are looking for. There were no turbo mods from MB as the turbo models where all LHD. No RHD as the exhaust manifold and steering box got in the way. MB in their infinate wisdom decided that the people with RHD vehicles would never want the mod anyway and there for did no R&D for our cars. How they were wrong.
There are people who carry out turbo kits. I think "ITT turbo" is a company who carry out this work. Most of the companies I have heard of are from the north. Before letting them loose on your vehicle if you decide to go down this route. Have a look at their fitment. If it looks proffesionaly fitted and not like its just chucked on. Then go for it.

I wouldn't bother fitting a six cylinder. The biggest problem is resale value.

As an aside I came a cross a two 320CE with turbo kits. Actually twin tubo kits. Very quick cars. Different make kits. But one looked very proffesional in the way it looked operated and was fitted. The other not so.

Good Luck

PS. Maybe Ernest , who is a regualar contributor may know a company, he tends to find out these types of companies. If he does he will pick up this thread.

More power from 250D

A little while ago someone was complaining on here that their questions don't get answered, well they are not alone.

I started this thread, and had very useful answers and recomendations from members of the forum.

To that end i emailed a company in the UK, who claim to be the "best",  i know that they supply a kit for my model, because there is a picture of the installation on their web site, but as for a reply, the silence is golden!!

I know that they have recieved the email, because i have had the read reciept.  It makes me wonder how these people remain in business, perhaps i'm just to small fry!!
