Just sold my Bürstner A747-2 on a Ducato / Alko chassis last year, so can contribute to any Motorhome questions as I massively modified it over the 6 years I owned it. A Mercedes unit would be nice, although the Ducato was a reliable and comfortable workhorse.

There are a few others on here who have Merc motorhomes. Welcome to the forum :D

thanks to all who came back with M/HOME INFO. my current m/h is our 9th,but the first on aMerc. This one was bought preowned and has a mysterious rocker switch which is labeled lpg but appears to have no function. As the merc 318 cannot be :gassed; and the seperate color bottles levels do not show on the readout led,s on the switch,i am baffled as to its exsistance. Any ideas please? Regards R.

Does it have a fixed LPG tank rather than the usual bottles? I suspect that it does, or maybe did have and they never got around to removing the control panel....

I installed an additional underslung tank which was linked into two 11Kg Alugas bottles controlled by a Truma changeover heater/auto-valve. Didnt think that the spare underslung was allowed to have an automatic valve as I installed a manual cutoff (in addition to the valve at the actual cylinder), but diyers follow their own code (irrespective of gas laws!!!!). A proper gas conversion on the engine would have a more advanced control than a rocker switch, so look at underslung tanks or electronic cutoff valve from the onboard bottles.

Hi Rebar
We are interested in motorhomes. After trying out some European models (Swift and Hymer) we ended up buying an American RV, then after a couple of years another one and last August our third one arrived. The current RV is a Gulfstream Sun Voyager, it is an A Class unit built onto a Spartan "bus" chassis, with a rear engine (pusher) format. The engine is a Cummins 5.9 litre in line 6 cylinder turbo diesel pushing out 210 BHP through an Alison auto box. The coach weighs in at just over 7 tonnes kerb weight and is 34 feet long.
We absolutely love it and get away as often as possible, unfortunately we have to keep coming home to top up the diesel coupons otherwise I would love to just point and go......
We had a Mercedes engine in the Hymer, it was the 2.9 litre normally aspirated diesel and although capable of starship mileage it was incredibly slow (and I mean slow.......).
I think that your switch could well be a Gas changeover switch, like for the coach LPG system (not the engine), we had a system on the Hymer that had some sort of switch to change from one bottle to another (13 Kg Calor gas bottles in the side locker???). If I were you I would check to see if there is any valves inside or near to the bottle locker, I guess that they wouldn't put an electric valve into a gas locker eh??
Do let us know how you get on, maybe you can let us know where you live and if you are close to one of us we could have a look at it for you?
Good luck

Keith

This rocker switch, which shows four green lights in sucsesion ending with a red light when final rocker position is reached is becoming an annoying mystery. Thanks PSMART for your input,i will continue my search but try the electronic cut off route in the process.
There must be some answer to this.

Watch this space.
I'm still watching ;) ... Keep on dreaming, RV's etc are boats to land people, we all dream of getting the next upper model. I regularly go to the Dusseldorf Caravan Salon (largest in Europe) and some of the RV's they have are utterly amazing.

I can only think of the ones with a Smart in the rear or under, and that would match your user name
