Just been thinking about the 300-24 valve and how it is like a car tuned by GTi Engineering. Then it struck me - Mercedes did another multivalve car...
Where does the 300-24 valve sit in the chronology? I assume it post-dates the Cosworth 190 2.3-16 valve, but does it post-date the Mercedes-developed 2.5 version of that engine? Is it a contemporary of the 2.5 190 engine?
If so it does rather explain the sudden nature of the performance. It's all smooth & slick then suddenly slips on its string-backed gloves and goes all Nurburgring on you
