Is today. We've averaged 42.3mpg indicated so around 39mpg to 40mpg more than likely.

We've had no breakdowns, 1 service and some new discs and pads. Bar bulbs going its been a faultless car to own and utterly dependable.

I like having an estate and it swallows all my camping guff, being small it's a fun drive on rural roads but on long motorway journeys and A roads it's not a particularly comfortable car.

It's replacement isn't coming anytime soon. Such faultless reliability (to be expected with a 204 with 5g and an OM646 engine) means it sticks around for a long time and delivers me great tours like its done so well this year.

My CL500 has just passed it 1 year anniversary and been faultless other than the CPS that failed in the first couple of weeks.

I have put 11k on it and that is a record mileage for me. I changed the wheels for the stock SL600 ones that I had, and put on new Dunlop Sports. They add to the quietness of the car and are not yet ½ worn which is very good.

The car is averaging 25mpg, and that is very good considering the very short journey it does at times. The 7g gearbox is so smooth it makes the car a joy to drive with seamless undetectable changes.

Its massive boot holds Lilians chair and everything else we need to travel with, too early to say if we are doing the Sweden run this year.

Where ever the car goes it attracts attention, I have been thinking about a Blue version but finding one with any extra's at all is impossible so far.

Maybe I will just buy an AMG grill and keep it :D

Older Citroen Now :-(
My last C class I owned for 22 months and 31,700 miles..
That never put a foot wrong and had no issues whatsoever.
My current car hasn't missed a beat but I haven't owned long so not really anything worthy of comment..
Come to think of it out of the 6 Mercs I have owned the only one that wanted anything other than routine servicing was my first E class.. The alternator went on that but it was replaced under warranty.

Sooo from my own personal experience all the MB's I have owned have been ****** good.

Steve......one piece of trivia prompted by your Post is that my SL at almost one month short of its 10th Birthday has not as yet had the need for a bulb replacement.

Your Post also reminded me that the second anniversary of my ownership of my C140 passed without ceremony 28 July 2013.

It had a recorded mileage of 82175 28.07.11 and in the two years since it had covered 15525 miles.......it is going to Sussex today.

It is the most frugal of my three cars in terms of fuel consumption at 22.03mpg......this is an accurate measurement taken over the 15mths. since the stretched timing chain was replaced 02 May 2012.

I'd worry if I averaged 22mpg in the skip. It's been, bar two bulbs a faultless ownership proposition and fits my needs nicely.

My question, should I head to Northumberland tonight, I'm in Edinburgh the now and could do some evening photography

I have had mine 3 years and 8 months from new and it has been Über reliable. Only things I have done so far

* 2 A and 1 B service
* At 2 and a half years I had work done under warranty to replace Turbo hoses as the car went into limp mode.

I have also had
* 4 new tyres at 24,000 miles
* Ding removed on A pillar by a Mercedes approved body shop.

And that's it. Plan to keep it another 4 years and buy an all new E class cabriolet just in time for my 40th.

It's had it's one year tour, I slept in it at Craster and have toured a bit of Northumberland.

For these little roads and a photographer on the cheap, there is no finer car than a c class estate

M6 Cab - prior to that, SL63 AMG, A-M V8 Vantage, SL55, SL500 and many more
That's impossible from a 4.2 litre V8

Really?

I could manage that in my SL500 (5.0 litre V8) on a trip and I saw an average of 28 in my 6.3 V8 this weekend.

Depends on where you go, my car once reached a heady 50+MPG on a M Way run from Birmingham to Preston but its normally around 32 MPG average with my normal shorter journeys

It also depends how you drive it. Normally I drive at the speed limit, today I was a good bit below and saw an indicated 51mpg average heading to Gateshead from Edinburgh via Anwick and Craster and the return leg via Glasgow also at 51mpg going no more than 60mph in the 70 limits and a bit below that mostly.

Saved me about a tenner

That I can believe from a diesel on a motorway run

I also got that SL to 31mpg on at least 1 road trip... to be fair I also managed
2 mpg when stuck in a cold queue that crawled one dark winter night...

2017 '17' Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCi ST Line X 180 (sorry)
i replaced a bulb on the 203 last month. first one its had in its time in our family (nearly 10 years now)

in its entire time with us it has had except servicing/tyres etc ie running costs)

1 heated rear screen replaced (warranty)
1 injector replaced (warranty)
2 rear suspension springs replaced
1 front suspension spring replaced(other needs done though)
4 heater plugs (replaced the full set)
1 intercooler replaced
1 fuel pipe replaced (pressure testing pipe connector leak)
1 thermostat replaced / antifreeze changed
1 pair front discs replaced
2 pair rear discs replaced. (corrosion / vibration)
2 sets parking brake shoes replaced (they fell apart)
2 sets front brake pads
2 sets rear brake pads (as discs were replaced)
exhaust welded for MOT
front suspension lower arm / ball joint replaced (MOT)

ok this sounds like a lot of repairs, but brakes do wear / corrode / stick and fall apart etc BUT remember this car was 23 months old with 7k miles on it when dad got it, and it will be 12 years old in december and currently has 116k miles on it, its not too bad, IMO, especially for a car of the era when build quality wasnt exactly top of MB's agenda!

Got home from Great Missenden last evening, 107 miles (mainly motorway), 1hr 47 mins, average speed 62mph, 51.7mpg average on the cluster! Saved me about £25 in fuel just for the trip home (never mind the trip up to Aylesbury and the running around we did there) compared to taking the 968.
