I had to 'reboot it' to clear the problem.

Was going home from work on Friday and could not rev past 2K rpm. No acceleration at all - pedal down to the floor. This went on for about 3 miles, then I parked and restarted the engine -hey presto FULL revs and power again. hasn't happened since, but am a bit miffed and worried.

Is this my MAF acting up?

Yes, it very well could be the MAF failing.

I have to "reboot" mine to get the cruise control working. Went up to Heathrow on Sunday and every time I touched the brake pedal the cruise could only be engaged again if I stopped the car, took the key out, waited a moment and then put it back in. Off I'd go, cruise on, brake - cruise/rev limiter stuffed again. I was in a position where I could stop but after the 4th time I gave up.

The on board computer showed "No malfunction" Shouldn't it have picked up something?

At least it didn't tell me I had "performed an illegal operation" ....

When the MAF went in mine there was no warning displayed just an inability to rev and no kickdown.

The MAF does not show up on fault codes either sometimes, the reason being that other components have deviated from their stored settings to compensate, you have to use your brain to say what do these fault codes really mean.

Exactly what happened to me on Friday. Will have it booked in asap. Is the MAF covered under the manufacturer's warranty? Or do i have to cover the cost myself. Mine runs till August (after which I have to decide whether to renew or get service plus).

There was an issue with W203 cruise controls for which there is a wiring loom modification. If your fault codes are read it can be identified.

Most cars will have had this under warranty.

Yes - should be under warranty.

Update

Took it into MB dealer and they said, and I quote "The turbo actuator is slightly sticking so we have lubricated it tested it again and everything is Ok. If it continues the turbo will need to be replaced"

I asked them if the turbo is failing why they just did not replace it in the first place but the service guy said this was because it had only happened twice as seen on the fault computer.

Going to pick it up later and I'll keep tabs on it and what are the odds it will fail just after the warranty runs out later this year?

If you keep their findings and ask them to write it out,you can go back if it fails out of the guarantee.

If you have paperwork from them of what they have done then if it fails after the warranty has expired you can argue that it was a prior issue which was not rectified and therefore covered by warranty.

Sounds like a plan. I'll get them to put it in writing or get a print out of the work.
