Hi & Welcome,

Mas air flow meter is a very common problem that results in limp home mode.

take it to a dealer or, better still, a properly equipped independent specialist and get the error codes read. Chances are that Blobcat's assessment is spot on (If I had to guess I'd go the same way) but there is a small chance it's something else in which case you may be wasting your money.

However, this is based on that fact that the MAS for the 240 cost me over £220 a couple of years ago so the diagnostic was worth it, but there are rumours that its such a common fault that the prices are more sensible now and they may even be cheaper than the diagnostic charge so its worth getting a price first. Also, Bosch do a repair kit which could be cheaper still.

I had one of these go on my Audi. With the Audi I was able to simply unplug it (there is a connector a bit like a printer connector, but I have no idea where it is on a Merc) and the car then runs fine. It can mess up your economy a bit and I wouldn't recommend running like it for a very long time but I ran mine with this disconnected for about a week with the blessing of the Audi main dealer with absoluletly no problem. Again, they had recently dropped the price from about £300 to £115. Takes about 5 mins to fit.

btw, I have an 03 C240 also, so I'd be keen to hear the outcome of this.
