The combination of ice, fog and my unquenchable and irresistible urge to plant my right foot in the carpet means that this is probably a good time to wish everyone a happy non-denominational seasonal holiday experience!

I might not be here to wish you a happy new year :D

Ditching the big wheels, Sat Nav and other toys in favour of the Lorinser work was definitely the right decision - thanks to everyone that offered their opinions and advice.

I'm off now to tear around inside the old Red Star Parcels warehouse on top of Euston Station (I have some very accommodating clients!)

No pictures but it looks exactly like a bog standard black CLS320 anway!

All the important bits are hidden away under the bonnet and the only bit I can see of that is a little black aluminium box connected to the end of the common rail with Lorinser engraved into it (plus the Lorinser badge on the engine cover)

Not much to see for an extra £5 grand!

Oh, I thought the body kit on their web link was standard kit. Have to say, the body kit makes the car look awesome.

Strange how we are all different. I think body kits on Mercs look really naff. Silly boy racer stuff you'd think adults should have grown out of. Like shiny pedals and choosing sport suspension to drive on Britain's overcrowded roads with a max speed limit of 70, which you can do in a mini (old or new).

However, it would be a dull world if we all liked the same things.

It is still said that we are influenced by our childhood and what was around when we were 12-14 years old.

The classic case was the Ford Edsel, a total disaster when it first came out,but a much sought after car a few years down the line.

Hawk20, I am 25 (just) and share your general hatred of lairy bodykits huge chrome aftermarket alloys and stick on tat etc..

Though what I do appreciate and so do apparently many british buyers (one of the largest markets for fast BMW Audi & Mercedes) is the factory fitted (or factory supported) additions for their cars. Such as aggressive f & r bumpers skirts and alloys. The current AMG, M Power, Audi RS, Brabus, Lorinser etc crop of styling accessories are gorgeous (if frighteningly expensive). Most 3rd party styling mods and the whole of halfords is cheap tat, naff and detract from the vehicle. How many Mercedes owners however, would rather their car looked like the equivalent AMG model? (lets leave out sports suspension for now as I tend to agree with you on that one;) )

I think the diffrentiation needs to be made between factory add on's and the Halfords/max power brigade rubbish.

Bodykits can be ok - it just depends on how tasteful it is. I 'grew up' in the 80's when there was a trend for dealers to put silly bodykits on cars. Some friends had them. So they were 1.1l escorts with skinny wheels and wide wheelarches. They looked plain stupid. Plus, a few months down the line and the cheap colour coded paint used to peel off and they looked tatty too. Personally I had a slightly older escort 1.3l. I had the rust cleaned up, 2 pack resprayed and fitted only standard factory trim (though Ghia style as it looked better than the L stuff), Popped a couple of small neat (though admittedly 100w) spots on the front, left the 1.3l on the back, and fitted factory wheeltrims, hiding the uprated tyres and the fact that there was also an uprated xr3 twin choke engine hiding under the bonnet. They could have all the show (after all they'd spent a lot more than I had) - and anyway, I had the go.
I've always liked quietly understated. That's why I used to love the old man's 380SE. In an age of hot hatches there was something really smug about leaving them for dead from behind the wheel of a big sloppy limo!
