The picture is of a socket - the UHI - universal handy interface, usually its in the centre console, to which the various Mercedes phone adaptors plug in it may have a small cover to stop dust and dirt getting on the small multiplug. If you don't have / can't see this, neither the Merc HFPs or viseeo MB 3 or later can fit. You may have a phone adaptor already there using the socket and it needs to be removed (with a small release pin - on the left 3mm black head just sticking out needs to be depressed then it slides out)

-http://www.mercupgrades.com/pictures/all/ML_HFP_connector_384.jpg remove the dash from the start and paste in a browser

If there is no UHI, but a fixed phone system is, a viseeo mb-2 (with a curly cable) pretends to be a nokia phone that can clip in the early cars phone adaptor - but is a Bluetooth device not a phone (and its more compatible with the mic used on early cars)

If you could get the latest Merc HFP for £100 then I'd says its better. But at £275 and a second-hand MB4 might be on ebay for £100 it does the same stuff

Many many thanks for all these details.
Within the armrest I definitely have this socket but I am not sure if there is already a phone adaptor that uses the socket as you say as a docking station. Tomorrow afternoon I will have another look since I am on vacation now without the car.
I will update, thanks again.

They sound as good if not better than the original. Even better if they have a DSP. I went from Audio 10 to COMAND 2.0 before the Erisin android unit. I have had to replace the standard speakers to get the best out of the new unit and am now happy with the sound.

Well yes, holiday.
Eventually I checked the armrest and found a Sony Ericsson base, as can be seen in attached videos.
I removed it and I am guessing that I now can plug a merc adapter as mentioned in above messages.

Small update on this.

I purchased and installed a 3rd generation Bluetooth Merc adaptor (the one ending in 6168) back in June. Quick reminder car is a 06 w219.

Call quality is not that good, I can hear clear enough from my speakers but all the persons I have spoken with they claim to hear me with lots of noise in background.

Previously I didn’t bother that much since it was my weekend car but now I have sold my daily 64 320d (that was my purpose from the beginning since I wanted my cls to be a daily car).

Any thoughts? Could it be a faulty microphone?

I have read another post within the forum that there was an issues with a microphone (with unexpected cut-outs) and finally it was a faulty Command unit.

Terry, that is exactly my experience with my Viseoo. I now use a FM transmitter,(£23) which my friends say they can hear clearly, with the added advantage of listening and controlling my music library.

Hi John, thanks for replying. My thought was to try to replace the microphone or to eventually replace the command unit with an android. Your proposition is more straightforward. Can you advise a decent fm transmitter (or yours) in order to avoid a bad choice? I am understanding that with this fm trans you dont need the viseoo anymore, correct?

That's correct. I use a "Nulaxy" which cost about £23 but seem to be sold out on the bay. I've been using it for 6 months or so without a problem. I put my music on a micro SD card. If you stream from your phone, you can do that. I tune my radio to 87.50 and the Nulaxy the same. You may need the "swan neck" version depending on the position of your power socket.
This is the sort of thing;

its probably a "no" but in case I am missing something within the engineering menu, is there a sub-menu for the telephone and for noise reduction/echo cancellation option? for the ngt1 version?
like the one you can find under the SW menu in the newer w218 models and ngt2.5?
