Hi all,

Firstly, I apologise if this is the wrong place for this. I am not incredibly knowledgeable about cars, which is why I have come here (in somewhat) desperation.

I have a 2019 A220 (petrol engine, automatic) that seemingly every few months (this has happened about four times now) just will not put the car into any sort of gear. On the dash, where there ordinarily is a square around the R, P, D icons, there is just nothing. It usually mentions about there being a risk of the car rolling/door open and the parking brake, but on all occasions, the door has been firmly closed. I have had it serviced recently and mentioned this to the garage but nothing was found (or possibly looked for). Each time it has happened, it has been temporarily resolved by disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting it - almost as if it is like a full computer reset.

I was wondering whether anyone else had either heard of, or encountered similar situations with their own vehicles.

Again I hope I am in the right spot.

Thanks

Please put up a picture of the relevant door switch on the car.

Hi Matt,

Would this just be on the actual frame? I am sorry that this probably seems like something I should know, but I just wanted to check. Thank you for taking your time to respond!

It's my fault for not really knowing what you mean to be honest. Did you just mean the switch for locking the door inside? I'm sure what you've said is something really obvious for people that have even a basic understanding of cars!

My apologies.
In old money, the spring loaded mechanism that acts as an electrical switch to turn the internal light ON when the door is pulled open.
I am not upto date on what system the modern Mercs use.
