I am thinking of upgrading from old230clk to new shape. Is the 240 V6 more economical than the 4 I know it is a lot smoother and quieter. Are they a vast improvement or just ok? How about the electronics these seems to be a big problem nowadays ,if you have all the toys are they reliable the seats etc. I know that the elec key in my old one has cost me £571! after 34k not good.
I may even go to the diesel advice please

I've got a W209 320CLK. The electronics on mine have been nothing but trouble. It's about to go back for the seventh time to try and sort it out. Sickening! I have too many toys, Heated Seats, Comand, 6CD, Leather, Phone, Keyless, Wheels, tyres and suspension, tinted glass. I do miss the Parktronic.

Problems.
Thermometer over reads
Automatic Lights & wipers wildly over sensitive.
Comand,
Keyless > seat, mirror and steering wheel memory problems,
Petrol flap locking actuator, (MB's idea of a fix was bending the lug with thumb pressure rather than replace the faulty actuator!)
Rusty calipers - (MB refuse to replace them!)
Door alignment,
Faulty minor interior trim
Headlight washers
have / are giving trouble

Diesel is a great choice. Much more economical and better mid range torque than a 320!

Just been ripped off by MB. £238 for DIY interface only update 6210 > 6310i.

I've had the W209 240CLK, as I couldn't wait for the 270 to come out, I only kept it for 12 months before going mad and replacing it with a W209 clk500.

The 240 was very slow, especially in the midrange. I even had Superchips remap the ECU. Average economy was 27.5mpg before and 28.9mpg after the upgrade. Didn't have many problems with the car in the 12 months and after 23K miles, rusting wheel bolts being the only noticeable issue, which were replaced under warranty.

I'm intrigued Ralph to know what the CLK320 economy / performance is like

The CLK500 has been rather had rather more problems since September e.g.
1) Wind noise from the drivers door B pillar (new window seal fitted)
2) Command system turning itself off and not recognising all incomming phone calls even when call is in the phone book.

Interesting the Thermometer over reads on the 500, where as on the 240 it was always spot on. The automatic lights do seem to be sensitive on the both models I've had. Average 24.5mpg

I just wish MB would put in the 320CDi engine in the CLK, as the 270Cdi doesn't match the BMW 3litre diesel for performance or economy with an auto box
