I'm thinking about replacing my W202, C250 TD with a Sport Coupe.

However my impression is that the 4 cylinder diesel engines have been left behind the competition. Since the V6 diesels have just be revised does anyone have any idea when revised 4 cylinders can be expected.

The V6 six diesels revised? The V-6 diesel engines have just been released.

Their seems to be a vast improvement over the older outgoig inline 6es

I have driven a c220cdi, and thought it was a wonderful car, and a lovely diesel

Jaguar reckon their 2.2 Diesel is high performance (I told them it wasn't in a drunken note and got a reply explaining they were not considering the 2.7 twinturbo diesel in the X)

I thought C220 was okay at over 150BHP else try and get a discounted C270.

The 220 cdi power levels are okay, although a little short of the BMW 2.0 litre unit (163 bhp).

What makes me feel that engine revisions are required is that I found when I used an early Sport Coupe the economy was a little below what I expected (43 mpg). Then when I compared the official figures for the early and later engine specs the economy has deteriorated.

I'd love a C270 and would happily forget about the finer details of economy in exchange for the smoother increased performance, my current car is a C250. However I don't need the size of the saloon and prefer hatchback (sorry, sport coupe) flexibility. If they did a 5 cylinder Sport Coupe, I wouldn't think twice.

As an aside is it just market positioning that has prevented a 5 cylinder Sport Coupe being offered, or is the engine bay different to the saloons and not allow enough space?

Sorry. As you pointed out my earlier post about the 270 was not applicable to the Sport Coupe.

Looking at the website there will only be a 200 and 220 coupe although this page seems to contradict that - uninentionally I think.

That's an interesting slip on the website. Perhaps I should be asking the dealer for more details on a V6 Diesel Sport Coupe.

If the reason the 5 cylinder isn't fitted is because it cannot fit, then there's no excuse for not fitting the V6 diesel.

Don't need the extra power, but the improved pull away and smoother power would be appreciated.

On the subject of the Jag V6 diesel, one of Wolfgang Riezle first dictums when he started at PAG was that the X type would get the V6. When he was told that it didn't fit, his response was to tell engineering go away and make it fit. It should only be a matter of time before it's released, particularly if it's trying to compete with C320 Cdi and BMW 330 Diesel.
