I just got rear ended in my brand new 2020 GLS and the person said they never saw my brake lights so I thought I’d test them when I got home.

I have to say I was far from impressed by the brightness of the brake lights. I assumed the massive lights on the tailgate would light up when braking but it was just the little lights on the corner. If you actually put on your head lights during the day there is very little difference when you actually brake between how lit up the back of the car is.

Attached a picture to show the lights I mean.

Personally I want the whole of the back lit up when braking.

or is it a fault on my car that the big rear lights aren’t lighting up? (Possibly caused by the shunt). Can’t find anything on the internet saying what brake lights there should be

Hello and welcome

Modern LED rear lights are very bright, I think the person who hit you is trying to get out of the blame...

isn't it strange how the person that rear ends you (so to speak ) always has a reason as to why it's your fault. As above, they hit you. They are to blame, obviously not paying attention.

I had exactly the same earlier this year. Her reason as to why I was to blame was that I hadn't moved .... o_Oo_O

She’s technically right though... if you weren’t there she wouldn’t have hit you...:p:D

No couldn’t press brake and take picture. Will rope wife in tomorrow. I think the issue is when main rear lights are on they so bright you don’t notice the change in the small brake lights that are also lit up before braking. Also the brake lights are at a weird angle.

If you have “brake hold” you can get out and look at the brake lights....
The dash will light up like a Christmas tree and it won’t be happy you’ve done it, but you can do it.

Just don’t do it much because if the brake hold fails or turns off the car will drive off without you...

It dose not need a break light to show you are stationary, in park the break light is off.
He has three break lights to chouse from.

You can't do that on my car. If you're holding the car on HOLD, opening the driver's door puts it in Park (or puts the electric parking brake on ... can't remember now) ;)

He/she should still leave enough space to stop safely. There is no excuse to run into the back of someone !! It's just a case of not paying attention :(

What a nonsense excuse to blame visibility of brake lights.
One doesnt need to observe brake lights to see the car infornt is slowing down!

Sorry you got bumped, good luck with getting it fixed.
