Hi,
the 220Cdi is the best to go for I am getting over 30mpg in town with mine. They loose buckets of value (a dealer offered me £12,300 for mine at 30months old.)
They are also horrendously unreliable I have had problems with:-

Faulty:- Brakes, Clutch(8k), air suspension, buckled wheels (from new)
suspension lnks, electric windows, central locking, oil level sensor, rust.

Amazing for a 3 tear old car (sorry van) with only 19k miles on the clock.

If you can forget the reliability it is exceptionally economical and good to drive, especially when towing.

One word of warning I have had 2 air suspension compressors replaced
they cost at least £700 plus fitting.

Hpoe this is of help

I agree with Mark on all points and have experience on one windowed van.
Problems with undelivered parts, central "comfort" locking, drive shaft boot split, brakes, oil leaks, coolant leaks from most hoses, wind noise, side vent windows, mini-clock, cabin filter change impossible, rear door lock cycling on/off, radio wiring wrong, horn not working, delivered rear wheel alignment visibly wrong and wearing tyres, many loose body bolts causing noises, all during the first 9 months of a 1 year warranty which was sidestepped by arrogant M-B execs/ a local dealer/and M-B "customer service".

Having got it right at some expense, it worked great until diesel flowed every-where. M-B seem to know this is/would be a problem as on other CDIs [M-B provide a large drain pipe for diesel fuel direct onto the engine front!]; this is not a problem for owners alone but also surely for motor-cyclists trying to stop or go round right-hand bends when fuel may slop out of the fuel injectors bay into the M-B provided drain pipe to the ground.

Nice design, nice drive, sloppily assembled, seemingly worthless warranty and as a biker I feel a bit "guilty" of spreading diesel...., but now ride
cautiously near a CDI!

Not your real M-B quality of manufacture or customer service both of which I know (knew) well. Don't blame the dealer, this is M-B responsibility
as bad as anything I experienced in owning/servicing/representing many manufacturers' vehicles.
