New shape A-Class A140, what's the insurence like?

It's all in the title, really. What group is it in, is it possible for a 18 year old to own one and not have to live in it?

Also, what are the old Mercs you see around a lot? The saloon ones that are cheap... I'm thinking that would be a lot more sensible for a first car... Are they any good?

I got a few years until I really have to worry about any of this but I always need to think ahead!

To be honest mate, insurance companies wouldn't insure me on a 1.8 Mercedes 190E. If I were you, I'd look at an A-Class.

E Classes are Nice, cheap and old (Basic Spec, 2.0 8v engine). Luxury motoring at no cost, but then, it's a 120MPH + car... It's not going to be insurable for someone your age IMHO.

A Classes can come quite well specced... Look at Parkers for information on insurance costs and running costs. This will help you a lot I think
