Hi Guys and Gals,

I've been reading your forums for a few months and have been to shy to post anything. (Be gentle with me)

I bought a 280E Auto W124 in March, with 168000 miles on the clock, and have never had so much fun driving a car.
I drove to Cologne in Germany from Cardiff, a round trip of a 1200miles, and did not had a problem. I have now done 171000 miles.

Are there any precautions I can take to ensure MB keeps running fine or any potential problems to look out for.

Steve

PS your all nutters but in a nice way :D

do the following

locate Stuttgart on a big map of europe. Take the compass bearing wrt Cardiff. Every morning, before driving off, face Stuttgart and give thanks and pray for another trouble free day. Patting the car after a good trip is recommended, and just remember, they can smell fear.

seriously though, keep on top of the oil filter plugs and brakes, and th rest will probably look after itself. Above all, use it, they wither on the vine.

Welcome aboard Steve. You are also now a nice nutter by default.

This might be a bit extreme

I chalk a huge 3 pointed star on the floor, drive my car onto it, place candles around it and pray for another week of trouble free motoring. I've only had my car for 3 weeks - i will continue doing this indefinitely.

Theres no more to do than to make sure it is serviced regulary. The small problems i have had, have been sorted by a post on the forum. Everyone seems to have time and wants to share thier knowledge - fueled by an enthusiasm of the marque. Dont be scared of the forum, we are all equals here whatever model we may drive. :-D

Well, What can I say!

Thanks for the replies.

Which way is Stuttgart and where can I get the cheapest candles.
They have to be cheap coz my MB keeps wanting petrol.

Welcome to the forum Steve, I am sure you will get lots of really good advice here....like the lighting of the candles and such

I don't know a thing about cars, other than you open the door, get in and start it, so this forum has been a lot of help to me.

I don't worry about the price of fuel as I never pay for it :)

No Candles Here!

Hi Steve and welcome.

No-one mentioned fuel filters so Im gonna. Always worth a change at the start. Changed mine the day I bought the car. Better MPG and a smoother running.

Oil, plugs, normal stuff.....Bullet proof the W124 (most of the time)

Another piece of advice for you with the car. The wheel arches have a lip running along them that collects muck. Easy to clean out and worth doing to stop any rust starting on the arches. Most W124's rust there as they age, prevention is better than a cure after all.

Best of luck m8

Andy

p.s......I want free fuel too!
