Hi all!

I'm a new W124 owner!

Just bought it and she's pretty decent!

It's an E280, 1995 M plate, dual air bags, air con, ABS, electric windows all round, electric sunroof, original tools first aid and hazard triangle in the boot, updated alloys fitted (MB) and aztec style cloth in cream. The car is smoke grey with a lighter gray lower half.

A few small issues include it being a little tricky to start in the mornings (once it's been run, it's fine all day when it's restarted), and occasionally, when hot, the brakes make a scratching noise (All pads are fine). Also, in the mornings, there's a small puff of blue smoke. When first started, in Park or Neutral, it doesn't like to rev... It mis fires and so on but when put in drive and taken off, it revs happily.

However, the oil pressure stays up well, the temperature religiously always stays at 80-90 degrees and the engine gives a lovely delivery of the power.

There's a few little rust spots, on the front wings (tiny), around the star on the bonnet (tiny) and in the middle of the passenger door (5p piece sized).

The interior is IMMACULATE and it's had tailored overmats fitted from new - The carpet is as new.

The only little niggle is that the tape player doesn't work, but the rest of it is perfect!

Is there anything major with these I have to look out for?

Any interesting, plug n' play mods I can fit?

Is there the possibilty of fitting traction control as it's a little psychopathic in the wet and also, at 65MPH, it's revving at 3000 rpm... Is that right or is there an overdrive or something?

Cheers then!

Jim. :-D

Hello and welcome Jim

Cant answer all but these cars are high geared being just over ik rpm per 1000,, so your figure is right.

You could update the radio or get one cheap from Ebay

Everyone loves the 124

4 Spd cars do rev quite high. The misfire in neutral is normal. It's stops the engine over revving in a no load state. Sounds like your brakes need changing. Check the wiring loom in the engine bay for corroded wiring and missing insulation.
