Newbie 190 Hot in Traffic Issue

Hello There, I purchased my first Mercedes on Saturday, a 1988 190 2L auto with 88k on it.

I was not looking for a Mercedes, but had to buy this one, it drives like new however whilst stuck in traffic on the way home, the temp guage went up to 100deg ( i note the guage doesnt redline til 120deg ) and the car stalled. as soon as it was out of the traffic there was no issue.

The fan is moving freely and always turning, the oil is clean and looks new, there are no leaks.

Does anybody any advice ? somebody mentioned that there is a magnetic switch that turns the fan on "fully" could this be the fault ?

Any advice or guide on how to repair is greatly appreciated.

Additionally can anybody recomend uk spares suppliers ?

Also is it okay to run the car on standard unleaded ? should i be using an octane booster ? or Super Unleaded ?

Cheers
Deano

Look to see if there are 2 thin wires coming up from the fan housing where it sits on the front of the engine, if you have its an electric clutch in not its a Visco coupling

or give us the VIN first 6 numbers 201--- the next 3
