Hello all, I've been a long time Merc fan, and have owen a C class and a 1970's SL in the past, and am thinking about returning to the fold. Before I commit money, I wonder if it would be OK to ask the forum opinion

I've found a very nice 2010 E class estate - an E250cdi Avantgarde with a very good spec.

I know that there have been issues with some Mercedes in the past - rust and electrics being notable, but I can't find masses of comment on the W212 estate, so what's the general feeling on here? is it a good car? Does it have inherent problems? That sort of thing.

I cover around 20-25k miles per year, so need reliable, comfortable and safe :)

One last thing, I'm assuming the Blue Efficiency engine is chain rather than belt driven, is this the case?

Thanks to all

Richard

Welcome to the forum!

Regarding your question on the E250CDi, it's a little early to say as most are still under warranty and as you will find if you do a search, not much to report on this forum as yet.

There have been posts on injector problems covered under warranty but apart from that not much else and most comments seem positive. Re the injectors, I would certainly take up the extra MB warranty if it's offered, they can turn out to be an expensive fix.

The E250CDi with 5 speed would be my preference, less to go wrong as the box is well proven.

Generally speaking the the feedback seems positive and driving experience and relaibilty good, putting the quality back into the brand after the blips in the 2000 era.

Hope this helps!

Next to nothing to report on these, they have had a very good name so far, and very nice, any injector issues have all past for quite some time :D

I have had a w212 250 on a couple of occasions from a dealer when mines been in for servicing or warranty work.

Nice place to be, the sport models I have used I am not convinced about the seats compared to my ag, the steering seems different and much lighter at slow speeds.

I had up to 45mpg and the auto with paddles is much smoother than the 5speed auto. But and I said this to the dealer, the 250 was noisier than my 220 for some reason ( wouldn't have thought that 4k miles vs 82k miles should make this?)
