Well, OK, not new to MB or to forums, but new to this one anyway... Have just bought a W210 300TD, and a couple of questions have come up that will benefit from a bit of group participation...

first off, oil-burners ahoy! If you have a 300TD, how many MPG do you get? I did a EuroHoon over the end of last week and I got 31mpg at 80, and 30 at 100. This is a bit lower than I was expecting, and there's not nearly as much difference in the two speeds as I would have believed possible: the E55 (same frontal area, different rump, petrol, huge V8) will do 30-32 at a steady 80 - but only 21 at 100 and above. Surely the 300TD can do better?

Secondly, the 300TD's key (singular) looks a bit dog-chewed. I've heard that one has to turn up at a squealership with passport, domestic bills, V5, DNA sample and willy measurement to get replacements - is this right? How much are new keys? I have the metal prongs, it's the plastic and electronic bits I need...

hi steve, with the Key fob, rather than selling the car to pay for the key, buy one from Ebay,if its the MB key fob and not the Scorpian one,buy one off Ebay for £5 and transfer your PCB and key into the new case,

Steve, if you got 31@ 80, and 30@ at at a ton, i think i'd be fairly happy.
Like you say, an E55 will only do 20 and it's a big muttha.

Top tip, Malcolm, I'll have a look for that. Still want a whole second unit though, since right now the one and only key has a range of about 2 yards. I can open the AMG from my front door - 30 yards away!
