my 2000 e 240 estate has developed a fault whist driving, the car just starts to coast along with almost no power.It makes a whineing sound as if its stuck in 1st gear. the car has done 90k but has full service history and is normally ultra reliable.

Sounds like it could be low an transmission fluid have you checked it
