Noisy exhaust?

Hi Guys,

I have somewhat of an arbitrary question; I just hope someone out there might have a few suggestions as to what the answer could be. I have a rattling noise coming from underneath the car. It's only ever there when the car is stationery. I know the exhaust shield has come off a few times and it sounds like it could be that again. I will get it checked out later this week but I was wondering if it could be something more serious like the CAT Converter for instance.

Another issue I have is that whenever I turn the sidelights on, the message comes up that I have a bulb out but I’ve had a look at the lights and they seem to be working fine.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

LS.

Most likely heat shields. Use larger washers and instant gasket (between washer and shield) when refixing. Although I've come across rattling catalysts they usually cause a drop in power due to partial blockage of the exhaust.

Lights problem: if not obvious side light or rear lamp, check numberplate lights as well. Problems can also occur if incorrect wattage bulbs are fitted.

Thanks for that Chris. It sounds like the noise is coming from the middle/front of the car. I hope it is the exhaust shield. The guys at the MB Centre I go to told me that the centre heat shield was corroded and that the front propshaft coupling was split during my last A Service (almost a year ago). Could it be that?

Once again, any help/advice is much appreciated.

From what you say. It sounds as if its the heat shield. When cats go any rattling noise that they make is slightly muted as its inside the exaust pipe.

Best get that prop coupling replaced whilst you're at it.
