hey guys,

I had bought an E240 last summer and it came with the Nokia Phone bracket (In the catalogue it says you can use 6310i!). So just decided to get a used phone, and once i place the phone in the bracket you know it appears that the phone is charging, when u click the phone button you call dial numbers and can see the signal strength (i.e. all fine untill here!). However, when I dialout a number and the other party picks up the sound doesnt come out of the speakers but rather from the phone itself!!! (I can hear it come out from the phone itself when the handrest is opened!). I tried removing the phone and putting it back in same problem as well as when someone calls on the screen it shows that someone is calling but you cant hear the phone ringing at all, and when I pickup same ol problem.

The interesting thing is that when I lift the phone and talk using the car phone kit cradle i can hear properly from the headset itself and the other party can hear me too.

Please guys, any help of why this is happenin n why would be great.

Thnx

Firstly have you access to another phone to try in the cradle?
It sounds like a dirty or broken contact in the cradle. When you plug the phone in do you get the little car symbol on the phones display?
It is possible to bend the contacts in the cradle, although pls be careful it is very easy to knock them out of alignment.
Is this a Mercedes phone kit / cradle or a Nokia Cark91?
Another option is if you have the remote handset option, there is a magnetic contact in the handset which when seated correctly routes the audio to the speakers, if it is not in the cradle correctly then the audio is routed via the handset. Another possiblity is that the speaker audio lead has come adrift from the back of the radio.

Thanks for the reply,
Actually I dont think its Cark91, its a Mercedes Phone Kit!
Yup I do get the little car symbol on the phone display, yea when I need to lift the handset I press down and the thing comes up and then I can lift the handset and speak from it (Is this what you mean by the remote handset?)
And where's the magnet located exactly, like how can I dismantle to know if the magnet is in place.
Usually when an incoming call comes, the radio (cd, etc...) goes off automatically and the same when I need to dial out.

Sorry for the hassle n thanx again

Ok, the magnet is in the CARK91 remote handset so thats not the problem.
It could still be the cradle connectors or the lead to the back of the radio or a switch in the cradle to switch between handset and handsfree operation.
I would still try another 6310 first, then take a good look at the connectors to see if one is out of place or bent.

The contacts I'm referring to are in the bottom of the holder, they press against the terminals on the bottom of the phone.

Hi I get the same probs from time to time in my Passat daily hack 6310i cark kit. I clean both the phone contacts and the car kit contacts with a bit of brake cleaner, solvent stuff on a rag or even my finger, I know I know, but after so long in the motor trade I've got asbestos fingers. It's the ones with 6 brass contacts that does all the bits the other two are for the charger.
Hope it helps

Just helped me a lot there Ray....mine wasn't charging, though all other functions were fine.

Know why now, as one of the 2 spaced apart ones looks damaged.

I'll have a play with it later in the week.

Mine's the 6210. Bought off fleabay for £20 inc postage as suggested in another thread. (Thanks Malcolm)

As my cradle won't swap out (wired directly) it seemed the cheapest way of integrating.
Just got to sort this connection out in it now.

Just swap the SIM out to my *girly phone* when I'm not in the car.

@jaberize,

Whereabouts are you?

If you're near me, could try my phone in it? I'm North Manchester.
