Wasn't there the same sort of jiggery pokery with the R, S and T plates?
Yes, R was the last 12 month plate (Aug 97 to Jul 98), S became a 6 month plate as T reg came in Mar 99.

Since then they’ve changed the plate numbers every 6 months with ‘51 plates starting Sep 01

Anyway. After all that. The reason they introduced the year letter was to improve car sales.

Yes. I know you'll say that nobody cares about the year letter but they do. People really do buy new cars to keep up with the Jones' next door. Can't be having a car on the drive a year older that Jones'y next door now can we.

Then the system changed to "twice a year" and people are so gullible they still fall over themselves to be seen with the newest letter they can afford.

If there was enough space on number plates the Govt would have them change every month.

So. My having a dateless number plate doesn't mean I'm an arrogant Kn*b. It just means I can't be bothered playing that year game.

I too have a dateless plate snobbery no, at my age I can always remember number plate if I change cars lol!!
