Regarding those chrome (plastic) wheel bolt covers.. I agree they look good but do you not have difficulty removing them without scratching and scraping them?
I remember them from my boy racer days and they were always such a tight fit!

They come with a plastic claw that grips the rear edge, yes they are tight and not tried to take one off, but at £6 for 20 I can buy new ones when its time to change the tyres, and that will be in a few years time. I never thought that I would sink to such things. I used to paint them with Hamerite.

It will not take me 10 mins to make up a metal removing tool.

Thank you.

I live in the North East at the moment. A place called Catterick which is near Darlington.

I'm in Redcar and would love to have my car detailed like that but I'm sure I couldn't justify the cost.

So many hours work and all that kit used, awesome!

If Parkgate is in the area I'll see him with my [STRIKE]non metallic, metallic iridium[/STRIKE] silver C class saloon.
I'm sure he could do the job at a fraction of the price by using.
One bucket.
One wash cloth.
One polishing cloth aka, a used pair of Y fronts.
One 'clay bar' (Wrigleys spearmint, well chewed at no extra charge).
Mr Sheen finishing polish.
Engine clean with a Vielda mop, a new mop used after every ten cars for best results.
Dotted water signature "Clown clean Я us".

I'm sure it would be just as good. Silver doesnt show scratches that much anyway.

PMSL.

You're more than welcome to pop over for a brew and a chat one weekend John.

If you do want the car doing i do offer forum discount. ;)

Silver is a hard colour to show off.

This was an E320 I did (sorry not up on W2xx no's. I think it was a W211 but sure someone will correct me if wrong). I think I managed to polish this metallic too. ;)

This was the bonnet of a silver BMW that I also managed to make metallic.

You do need perfect light conditions though to show off a silver car (like what Malcolm managed to do with his). Hence why most detailers who do it as a sole business have a unit to work in. One so they can see the imperfections and two so they can showcase the results.

The trade off is silver doesn't show the dirt much, black looks great but shows the slightest cover of dust, especially if it's been disturbed after selling.
I know you know that though.

I might send you a PM sometime Carl.

I think that silver is better than that in that it never looks dirty, well mine does not, The sonax seems to stop the dirt from sticking to the car, even the wheels stay cleaner with that stuff.

Excellent job there, keep looking at my X5..black as well.. and think where will I start...or more importantly when will I start to polish it to that standard..
Just as a matter of interest, not sure that ceramic paint was used in 2002..My memory banks suggest that it was first trialled in 2003, but I'm sure someone will have the answer.

How much do you charge for this treatment Carl?

Perhaps you could give me a call. I might have an SLR McLaren for you to do.

The cost is entirely dependent on what level of correction the customer requires and the time frame they want it done in.

I'll send you a PM. :)

No idea when it was first used. I thought it was later. But the BMW and Merc cars I've done have all been later than that anyway.

It was not used on all until 2004,,,some had it 2003 and not before. If you have it the paint code has a C in front of the code number.

Mines a late 2003 early 2004 car and is ceramic paint, it's a total pain to fill in chips on te bonnet.

This was what I said earlier, the first generation of ceramic paint was too hard, so hard in fact if a stone hit it, it splintered. This does make filling in stone chips very hard to fill. All paint shrinks as the thinning agents evaporate, so not only does the paint sink, it pulls back from the sides as it dries, always better to over fill, leave a few days and flat off.

Great job. Dedication !

You have too much time to spare. I cannot afford to lose 2 days for doing my car(-s).

Thank you. :)

I wish I had too much time! I gave up my spare time to do the car as I'm building a portfolio to do this as a business in the future.

I try not to do more than 3 cars in any one month as it impacts on family time. But it all depends on what the owner wants doing. If it's a one day enhancement then I may do a little more. A job like this then I'll only do 2 at most.
