Lots of questions!!

What engine oil should I be using in an 83 w123 300td? Which gearbox oil? The oil pressure needle is pressed hard against the upper limit, usual or not and will an oil change make any difference? She seems very sluggish changing gear, again, will an oil change help? Finally the central locking doesn't work, anything obvious to try?

Right, well thats the first load, many more to come. Hope you guys can help. Seems like a great old bus at the moment but not very cofortable as someone's filled the seat with expanding foam (as mentioned in the general area)

Your Mercedes
2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
Oil filter I would use MB, the other filters from halfords or where ever.

Do change the gearbox fluid, it may never have been done, all details in the DIY and engine section.

the central locking is vacuum, a leak anywhere could stop it from working, does the pump run ?

My locking system was not working and my engine was slow to shutoff. My problem was where the yellow vacuum line passed into the drivers door. It was broken. Check your doors to see if any of the lines are broken.

Hello Dwayneb,

My engine is slow to shut down and the central locking doesn't work either, any ideas?

Thanks,

Hi,
Oil is 20W50 or 10W40 or 15W40. Don't use full synthetic oil. Change the oil (ATF2) and filter in the box first. If this does not help you can adjust the modulation pressure at the autobox to make it softer (or in most of the cases a bit more harder). Cheap supplies at eurocarparts.co.uk.
Oil change will make a small difference :) Any other help? Send me a Mail.

Greez,
Oli
