Y'know Iv'e just checked the oil again on the above car after about 300ish mile's and I had to put about another ltr in (99' V6 auto). So think about this....If after that kind of milege your topping up with about a ltr there's no way after say 6-10k you'll need a change because technically youv'e got "fresh" oil in after every 300ish or so mile's anyway....

So really after 6-10k you'll have an oil change anyway with all the topping up....yes/no, I mean yes change the filter after say 6-10k....I'm thinking logically here or am I talking rubbish...

If you are having to put in 1ltr every 300 miles i suspect you won't have to worry about oil changes in 6k miles as the engine will have probably given up by then!..........you either have an oil leak or a serious oil burning problem.

...

Are you sure that you checked it properly, I've noticed that it takes MB engines a fair time to drain into the sump after running, which if read early will give the impression that the oil needs topping up. Wiat a good five minutes before checking.

Too much oil knackers the cats. Mind you if you're burning that much oil they're allready knackered.

do you see blue smoke from your wallet?

Stulc, you have big trouble.
I have only used about 1 litre of oil in 4years and 70,000 miles in our 280, and that was all in two days in the Alps.
I had a BMW with 190k on it, and that didn't use as much as you are doing.
Get someone to analyse your exhast gases for hydrocarbons. Or have a look all around the engine to see if it's not squirting out under pressure and being blown away in the slipstream
Most manufacturer's recommendations are about 1 litre per 1000miles, and that's the high end of consumption.

You do not know if you are burning or using the new oil, or the old, something to think about:twisted:

If burning 1 ltr. every 300 miles you'd be blinding following traffic with a smokescreen or, if leaking, be able to sail boats in the pools of oil it'd leave on the road. If yours is doing neither something's not quite right.
(P.S. Should be a capital 'C' in Christ!!) :):)
