Steve, Next time you drain through the sump plug (forgotten what they are - I've Pela'd for years!) measure exactly hw much oil comes out. Then you have a baseline for checking how efficient your extraction pump is when you use it next.
Thanks Umble. Will do.

Over regular oil changes ARE the cheapest engine maintenance you will EVER do..
Nah. You just enter the area of diminishing returns if you change oil too frequently. There is an optimum change schedule, beyond which you're just wasting money.

I've just got an lidl/aldi? oil suction pump that connects to the battery for the next change on my clk. The wife was concerned about it flattening the battery and suggested I keep the engine running when using it...... What could possibly go wrong?

I wouldn,t think that there would be any issues in this. I would call this an oil refresh which would do more good than harm. Steve.

I remember reading an article about a guy who owned a gullwing SL, the car was so precious to him he changed the oil every time it was used - now that is dedication to the cause

Oil filters are good for 15k+ miles so no problem but the filter replacement is so easy why not do it at the same time

Anyone used the vacuum pump for removing petrol from the fuel tank or is better to use a hand pump?

I have used my Pela to remove diesel from an Astra I was scrapping. Stuck the suction pipe down the pipe going to the filter under the bonnet and sucked ..... I don't think I could get the suction pipe into the tank ???

If I remember correctly, the instructions that came with the 12 volt vacuum pump and hand pump advise against using it with petrol. I think that this must be because the pumps rubber seals would react badly to petrol. Steve.

Pretty well sums up my feelings on using it for petrol extraction I think I’ll buy one of those cheap hand pumps from Ebay to do the job it’s only likely to be used a couple of times.
