oil in header tank

hi, a little new to this site but need a bit of help with a problem
have a 1995 e300 diesel estate, 110,000 miles with engine oil in the header tank.first thoughts was the head gasket but the car drives really well, no smoke, the engine runs really well, I have no coolant in the oil and no usual sludge on the oil filler cap. the oil in the header tank only amounts to about 1/4 of a litre and only happens after the car has covered approx 500 miles, is there a engine oil cooler that could be the problem or is there another known problem that someone has heard about. any info would be well and truely appreciated. thanks regards mark.

thanks for the pics, will have a look and inspect the seals and posibly replace the cooler, and let you know how i get on. regards mark

Iv'e heard of it on the 190's .My 190e had it and a new headgasket was a complete cure.

There's a water / oil heat exchanger in the sump which can corrode through. The result is exactly like a failed CHG

Look down on the o/s of the engine and you'll just see the heat exchanger & the silver pipes going to it

I know of two failed heat exchangers on 606 engines and zero blown cylinder head gaskets
