I was driving down the A3 this morning and my oil light came on. I was travelling at 65mph and oil pressure was at 3. As I slowed down to come off into petrol station the light went off. I checked oil level and it was perfect. Have I got a faulty sender unit, I was always under the impression that low oil level would be apparent when at idle or cornering hard. Any advice would be most appreciated as the car is in for major service this Friday. Cheers.

If your pressure gauge shows a steady 3 and the oil light comes on with a sump full of oil, then this does suggest the light is faulty. This might be the sender, or might be another fault.

Clearly the oil level at any specific point in the sump will vary with cornering forces, as you suggest.

Thanks guys, the oil level is half way between min/max so I think it would be wise to ask the garage on friday to replace the sender and go from there. Cheers and thanks again.
