Oil pressure too low?

Hello everyone. From time to time my oil pressure drops so low (usually under 15psi) and my 1978 280ce cuts out. This is usually after some trouble free driving. She'll be really high for ages (45 psi even stopped at the lights) then when she hovers down to around 25psi at the lights (after half an hour or so of driving). She'll then start getting lower and lower until she cuts out - but only when stationary. I have to stick her in N or P and try and keep the revs up incase she cuts out before I join a round about Any ideas would be great.

Hello with your odd fault, This cant be any thing serious as the oil pressure has nothing to do with the running of the engine, it sounds very electrical to me, one poor contact somewhere can cause the instruments to miss read and the electrics to cut the engine

What is the mileage of your car, when was the oil and filter changed and what oil are you using?

Sounds like the oil is getting too hot and loosing it's viscosity.

Could be an oil cooler problem (if fitted - someone else on here can confirm)

A simple oil / filter change might be the answer
