My CLK is a "Y" 2001 Reg and what I believe a Manufacturing Date of 13/02/2001.

So how come it is down as a "2002" Model Year according to the Vin Lookup?

NB. Oh and it was actually originally fitted with 17" AMG Wheels at the Factory. So obviously they were removed at some stage in its past and replaced by those 16" ugly things, (which I have now replaced with the proper 17" AMG Wheels) that were on it when I bought it. (Which I shall put back on if I ever sell it of course). :p

Both my cars are 2008 build dates , but both are first registered 2009 . Does the cars log book yield any clues ?

I think it’s a ‘marketing’ ploy, at the stealership, buyers are tempted that they are buying “the upcoming version” new and improved...

And in reality it gets superceeded by a ‘facelift’ in the summer - which probably consisted of ‘piano black’ trim instead of ‘plastic mahogany” and the needle on the speedo is now orange instead of white.o_O

March 2nd 2001 registered.

The only other thing it has on the full Build under "26" - Production Test New Engines.

The model year post dates the production year whenever a facelift or new model is announced. Normally the model year changes around July/August but yours seems a lot earlier.

Hi Bill,
Don't quote me on this, but, I am of the belief that around the 2000/2001 era the registrations were in the middle of a change to the new registration system ie: 00, 50, 01, 51 etc.
Prior to that from my experience as a MB sales rep in florida all models were released prior to the actual release date.
Hence, I bought a 2003 Toyota corolla, in July, but the actual model year was a 2004 model.
The year of actual manufacture, was classed as insignificant in terms of marketing and sales.
So, in short, your car was built 13/02/2001. But was to the 2002 model specs. In UK, registration year is more important, so being registered in March 2001.
Hope I've kinda simplified it enough.
Regards
Andy

manufactures have done this for years. My M reg MKIII Cortina was registered Sept 1973 but was the face lift car ie same dash as the later MKIV & V (I know there's no MKV Cortina ) and was classed as the 1974 model.

Thanks for all the answers chaps - much appreciated! :)

And yes, as others have stated/explained, although a 2002 model it was sold in 2001....

And another thing is, is if you do a search for the Colour, (of my car) - "Almandine Black" it seems to be the reserve of S's, CL's and SL's. With the exception of mine, which actually comes up a couple of times in the photos..... (But with the Wheels that were on it when I bought it - albeit not looking the same condition).

Not sure if this Link will work...???

Thanks again.

Maybe your paint colour was done as special order.

Mine was built in Nov 2016 registered in July 2017 and has this on the build sheet.

I used to have, (in Zim) a 1983 MkV Cortina 2.0l Station Wagon, the one with the wrap around front indicators.

Was never too keen on the Self Adjusting Clutch though - but it was a really nice drive! Albeit about 7 years old when I got it and a previous owner had fitted a stage 2 Meisner Cam so it was a bit lumpy at idle.
