Old for New

Hi, New member here, just done something very stupid. Based on an inflated opinion of my very limited technical ability I have just bought an old 1972 280CE. It was described as "Parts or Repair" so you can imagine what sort of state it is in.

1 Initial inspections tell me it will need
2 Front Wings
3 Welding to the floor - but not much
4 Full respray - lots of surface rust as it has been sitting outside for a few years
5 New bumpers
6 Mechanically I have no idea until I try to start it but it has only done 100k so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Do any of you know a specific site or club for W114 owners.

Any advice or help would be most appreciated.

I think the w114 coupe is the best looking Merc ever. Especially the older ones with the quarterlights in the front.

Always wanted one of the w115 240d 3.0 but I've never seen a RHD one.

Get over to http://retrorides.proboards86.com/ its nor specifically a mercedes site but there are quite a few old merc owners on there running and modifying their vehicles on a budget (i drive a '75 280ce) long as you dont have a rusty one and most of the coupe only parts are on yours it'll be a fairly easy thing to look after as pretty much everything is still available for them, although coupe parts are a bit pricey from mercedes (£250 per side for window rubber!!!) i'm lucky i have a mercedes scrapyard 20 mins from my house down in south essex.

i dunno the address its quite easy to find though, just outside billericay on the way to wickford near the pedestrian bridge, you'll see a few mercs buried in the hedge on the left hand side, seems to have some of everything in there from about 1970 onwards, but he has spares for earlier cars stashed in his workshop.

took pics 6 months or so ago for someone else, will give you an idea of what he has although obviously stock changes all the time, not all wreckers as he does repairs as well.
