is compounded by the fact that we are all equal in the eyes of the law.

This lady should not be allowed out unsupervised. And I would argue that point on a) her competence and b) her attitude.

Now that one can shop on line and have things delivered, there is surely less case for preserving the driving privileges of such people on the general argument that "they need to drive to get about"!

I also suspect that she drives sufficiently few miles that the regular use of taxis would be cheaper for her and safer for us - in addition to relieving congestion and removing abandoned cars from somewhere near the kerb.

Well she said that she knew that that she was going to do that when she got out,,so I asked her why did she do it then, she then said that I was making too much fuss, the road is on a slope,,and that made it worse, it was quite a bang

It better be her money he spends.

I'd notify your insurer/police in case she denies it as Malcolm would be the worse off.

Good point and I will do that,,I can prove that she was there by the photo and her appointment at the doctors surgery next door

She gets out and says,,oh its only the number plate and you can sellotape that back on.

With an attitude like that I'd get the Police involved and make a statement.
3 points for driving without due care and attention might contribute to getting her off the road.

I know it seems harsh getting the police involved, but she could be driving around with impaired vision (so many people do! "But I only drive in the daytime and on roads that I know"). A quiet word from them could be what it takes for her to realise that it's time to hang up the keys. I mean, that car, in a 25 foot gap, and she still uses your stunning car as a marker?

what is it with this forum & an insatiable desire to report the world & his wife to the police?

It would appear that Malcolm will not end up out of pocket (thankfully) - as someone else mentioned - it could have been the uninsured chav syndrome - but if anyone really believes that the police would be remotely interested in this they really do need to get out more.

there is a very real issue with elderly drivers (of both sexes) and that is unfortunately going to continue / get worse as we have an ageing population and no politician would appear to have the balls to address the problem

I am genuinely sorry that Malcolm's beautiful car has been damaged in this way but s**t happens and the car can be repaired

how many forum members would gladly chuck in their keys when they reach 70 / 75/ 80 or whatever ?

final observation - there was a time when "bumpers" would have meant no damage

Malcolm, my wife had a similar type of thing some years back in the Porsche, woman in a mult-story car park reversed into her - and to cut a long story short, it was a good job we informed our insurers as my legal protection kicked in, ended up in court - but her insurers didn't show (Norwich Union no less!!) so (admittedly 12 months after the bang) we ended up with a cheque for over £600 (loss of use, inconvenience etc) where the replacement parts (NS driving light and indicator) cost £214 - and I bought and fitted them myself!
Give your insurers the full facts in case she trys it on!

Sincere commiserations on the damage to your pride and joy - just make sure she pays to have it fixed to your satisfaction!!

True no police involved here as no personal injury.

Had she hit it square on then I would have had the minimal of damage, it is the elephants foot syndrome

You're right, the Police wouldn't be interested. Insist on making a statement, then they have to take an interest.

I don't want people on the road who have the attutiude that they don't have to care and can just bump around off other's cars as they see fit.

This time relatively minor damage to a car. What about next time?
There are far too many people who don't have the necessary ability to be on the roads. People like this need to be taken off the roads for the safety of everyone else.

so comes the question - re-test when you reach a certain age - yes - definitely. Living in the West Country i find i am dodging them all the time as there are a lot of elderly people where i live -pull out without looking-reversing into your car - happened to me 3 times last year in supermarket car park, even nearly took off my wing mirror trying to park next to me when there is empty spaces all around. I am afraid you have to have eyes in the back of your head. One old lady got out and said sorry -i had to park there as i can't walk very far -have bad arthritis - makes you feel guilty having a go- and then you watch them as they sprint across the road dodging traffic..........?

Well in this case the brake lights did not even come on as she rolled or drove back down the slope

Had a little old lady reverse out of a bay in the local Asda carpark just before Christmas without looking ,I tooted the horn , shook my head and carried on about my daily business after giving her plenty of time to clear off .

What did she do , took my taxi licence no and reported me to the taxi licencing office at the local council , Result : I got a bollocking from the council for aggressive use of the horn , Next time it happens I'll just keep going and wreck their car Like I did with the little Chav that drove his Astra convertible down a one way street the wrong way a couple of years ago and exit into the main road right in front of me . Result one banned Chav and a written off Astra , and an improvement to the paintwork and general appearance of my taxi following repairs to my taxi courtesy of their insurance and a 10 day break with loss of earnings added .
