Dear All,

I am knew here, so please do apologize me if the came up already.

I have a Mercedes W221 S320 cdi from year 2006, and I have a big problem.

After driving 100 km on motorway, I stopped the car and the it was very difficult to start again the engine and started to knocking. The first step was to replace 6 injectors (they were leaking), but it did not solved the problem.

Here is a video about the sound of the engine

Even before the injectors have been replaced, we went a few kilometers with the car, at the beginning the knocking was less hard, but then when the engine warmed up it became worse and the engine stopped, and didn't start again. After 1 hour of waiting it started again. During the idle the car is shaking and it lost power. Sometimes it smokes heavily grayish diesel smoke. Do you have any tips?
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Hello and welcome,

That does not sound healthy at all, have you had it on a Mercedes diagnostic machine (Star)?

Yes, there was only one fault code, Injector 5.

Yes, nearly as bad as when my 200TDI overheated and picked up the white metal bearings

100% self inflicted - winching through bonnet level mud with 1 battery so engine running to keep it charged - didn't notice a stray branch had snapped the fan belt and didn't notice the temp gauge as busy winching. Got out the other side and drove it out the site but not at all happy. Replaced it with a tweaked 200TDI and a split charging 2 battery setup so I can winch with the engine off without stranding myself.

A friend once had a similar issue with a Mini 1.6d, turned out to be a cracked piston.
