Operating tempreture

Hi all

Could anyone give me an idea as to what is the correct operating tempreture for my 1997 W202 elegance should be. it appears to be just under the 80 degree mark in traffic but some times under this during nomal driving. But I've now noticed a swishing sound coming from the front of the engine and wondered if this was a sign that the water pump or thermostat may be on the way out.

Engine temperature seems normal. Are you loosing any coolant? Is the V belt in good condition? Does the sound go away with the AC off?:|

My W202 240 Sport sits at exactly 80 whether I'm sitting in traffic or doin 90MPH never moves

If anything your running slightly cooler than mine (Which is always a good thing)

80c is what many MB cars run at, thats below the optimum of 100c but as said most run at 80c

Has it got a viscous fan coupling on the cooling fan? if its faulty could explain the noise.

My C270 always runs at just below 80 also.
