Pagoda just can't slow down - Cutting out

I am thinking of buying a 1966 230SL Auto.  I am told that it has a problem in that when you leave off the accelerator to start to slow down it cuts out.  It did not happen on my test but the current owner assures me that it happens all the time and he has not had it inspected.

Also, is there any other particular items to look out for in a Pagoda.
