I think the compensator on the 203 is automatic, in view of this I would ask a good indie to set it up for you,, its possible that the compensator just requires lubricating and you could do this first using oil.

I would think that 1 hour should cover it so not to bad, an indie is half the price or more than a MB dealer.

I have not asked you but what is the problem with your parking brake

When I release the handbrake to drive, the handbrake warning light comes on literally after a few seconds of driving. I am then forced to re-release it a few time for it to completely go off. However it's been getting worse and worse lately.

You will find that if you lift the pedal with your left foot, while pulling the release lever, the light will go out.

As has been suggested above, the problem is likely to be adjustment, or a sticking compensator arm pivot - have a look at this under the back seat.

203 or 202? Just look at the chassis number...

I've got a 2009 CLC with the exact same problem.
Is the foot brake mechanism the same for this under the rear seat?

Indeed, just one metal cover to remove beneath the center of the seat base.

I should point out that correct adjustment or the parking brake includes the adjustment at the rear hubs too.

Hi All, same problem for me on a 2010 e class. Just appeared yesterday when was trying to sell the car and a chap came for independent inspection! (I guess because I never use the parking brake and he must have tested it). In my case the light just stays on all the time now, and even if I lift pedal with my left foot to the highest possible position, light does not go off! Just my luck, guy is supposed to collect car Saturday if I can sort this!

So on a 2010 E Class, is the fixing procedure same as specified above?

Thanks All!!

Try spraying a little silicon spray up where the footbrake pedal disappears into the top of the footwell area , may just be something sticking .
Or apply the footbrake and drive EXTREMELY slowly (0.00000001mph :p) and see if that frees it after the dash warning comes on for footbrake still applied .
